CoCA Lab: Nat Evans

CoCA Lab: Artist in Residence Program

Featuring Nat Evans.

Composer and sound artist Nat Evans is activating our new space, CoCA UN[contained] in the Equinox Container Village during the Georgetown Art Walk in August and September.

During his residency, Nat is collecting local field recordings to stretch,  manipulate and then use to resonate one of our containers. On August 8, you are welcomed to come hear and feel the hum of your neighborhood as you lean against the container. On September 12, everyone is welcomed to CoCA UN[contained] for a special, one night only, preview of his new workThat Summer, a sound document shown inside our shipping container where visitors will become immersed in the exploration of seasonal sounds. As the evening unfolds, the field recordings of an Indiana summer resonating in the container will shift and change over time and, like the cicadas, slowly fade to silence.

Seattle sound artist and composer Nat Evans creates site-specific events that fuse nature, community and subjectivity of experience, electro-acoustic works for interdisciplinary projects, as well as concert works for chamber ensembles. His work is regularly presented across the United States; That Summer will be part of a larger installation commissioned by and presented at at the Indianapolis Museum of Art in September. His work has also been performed in Europe, South America, Australia and China. Nat has received numerous commissions including the Seattle Percussion Collective, the Harrison Center for the Arts, The Henry, Odeon Quartet, The City of Tomorrow, Portland Cello Project, ALL RISE, The Box Is Empty, and the Indianapolis Museum of Art, among others. His music has been featured on a number of radio stations in the United States, WNYC's New Sounds with John Schaefer, as well as BBC3, and in the 2011 Music Issue of The Believer. He studied music at Butler University with Michael Schelle and Frank Felice. To read more and listen to some of Nat's compositions, please visit his website.
