Gary Hill is an internationally-renowned media artist, based out of Seattle. Hill has created innovative sculpture, sound, video, installation and performance art since the 1970s. Inspired by philosophers such as Derrida and Heidegger, Hill’s art explores themes such as language, communication, and miscommunication. His interactive art invites viewers to experience space and time in an altered format. Learn more about Hill’s work here.

In summer 2018 Hill exhibited Linguistic Spill [Un]contained at CoCA, with an intention to allow viewers “to see with their ears and hear with their eyes.” Set in our darkened gallery, Linguistic Spill [Un]contained incited a variety of reactions, ranging from synesthesia to unease and pure discomfort.

This unique event is a benefit for CoCA with 100% of the proceeds going back to support our programming and operations. CoCA has been a catalyst for the advancement, development, and understanding of contemporary art since 1981.

Warm thanks to Gary Hill for his generous support of CoCA with this one-of-a-kind experience!
