Artist’s Statement:

“Isle of Me” is a visual journey of my uncertainties as time vanishes in front of my eyes. These paintings expand a time of my father’s passing and my mother’s stroke, all while navigating in the altered world of COVID.

To understand my thoughts and to deal with isolation, I used the canvas to explore the space between personal meditation and reminders of the physical world.

My process starts by mixing many layers of paint to form a background. I then build on ideas of shape and color, revealing personal meanings throughout the painting. I build up and breakdown images until they develop into their own as I paint. It’s a balance between something hidden and something manifested.

Artist’s Bio:

Steven Lenhart was born and raised in Portland, OR and has now been living on the Kitsap Peninsula since 2015. He has a formal education in photography and has nearly thirty years of freelancing and photo studio experience. His sports photography has graced season ticket packages and has been shown on gallery walls as far away as Warsaw, Poland for the European Championships. The past ten years Steven has been in a state of transition and has since put down his camera and picked up a paint brush. With a background in photography, strong compositions enhance his raw form of abstract painting. This is his first painting exhibit.
